The Tanah Karo Police (Polres) have named nine people as suspects in a severe assault case that killed a hiker with the initials RCS in the Mount Sibayak tourist area, Karo Regency, North Sumatra. This act of vigilantism was triggered by allegations that the victim had stolen belongings of another hiker in the tourist area.
Karo Police Chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner (AKBP) Pebriandi Haloho, revealed that this tragic incident began with a report of a theft received by tourist entry fee officers. Based on this information, the officers and several local residents tracked RCS down to the Tongging Village area, then brought him back to Mount Sibayak for clarification.
Upon arrival at the location, the victim was intensively interrogated by the fee officers and several locals, accused of committing acts that tarnished the image of regional tourism. The situation heated up, triggering the emotions of the perpetrators who then spontaneously mobbed the victim together in the summit area of Mount Sibayak.
As a result of the brutal assault, RCS sustained severe injuries all over his body. The victim was rushed to Efarina Berastagi Hospital for intensive care, but was declared dead a few days later due to the serious injuries he sustained.
After conducting a thorough investigation, the police detained nine suspects with the initials RS (30), ASS (26), MFRST (22), AT (23), WS (28), JSE (19), SAR (36), Z, and OS. For their actions, the perpetrators are charged under the Child Protection Act as well as articles related to severe assault in the Criminal Code (KUHP).
