Automotive giant Ford and technology company Apple have officially established a strategic partnership to integrate Apple Maps directly into the vehicles' built-in systems. This deep integration is scheduled to launch in 2027, targeting Ford's latest electric vehicle lineup based on the Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) Platform.
Unlike conventional CarPlay screen projection systems, this collaboration utilizes the MapKit for Automotive SDK. This technology allows Apple Maps to be embedded directly as part of the car's primary operating system. This move gives Ford the ability to customize the visual aesthetics of the map to align with the vehicle's identity, without losing signature Apple functionality.
This integration offers various advanced features such as natural voice command-based navigation, real-time traffic updates, and routes tailored for electric vehicles (EVs). One of the standout features introduced is battery preconditioning capability to optimize the charging process as the vehicle approaches a charging station.
High-precision road data from Apple Maps will also be utilized by Ford's Latitude AI team to accelerate the development of BlueCruise, their hands-free driving technology. These digital maps will seamlessly guide the autonomous driving system, from highway entry to exit points.
Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley revealed that this advanced technology will first be featured in a mid-sized electric car priced at a competitive estimate of around US$30,000 (equivalent to Rp539 million). This step is taken to bring more affordable technological innovation to the mass market.
Despite the high level of integration, Apple ensures that user privacy remains strictly protected with no tracking of individual locations. This collaboration marks a shift in global automotive competition, where software and digital data infrastructure have now become key to attracting consumers.
