The General Chairperson of the Central National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI), Retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, expressed deep appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto for the issuance of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2026 concerning the Awarding of Sports Honors. This regulation is seen as a new milestone in providing legal certainty and a form of state respect for those who strive in the path of sports achievement.
Marciano emphasized that this legal framework targets not only athletes but also coaches, officials, sports organizations, as well as the private sector and individuals who play an active role in the achievement development ecosystem. According to him, this step serves as a strategic instrument to motivate sports patriots who have dedicated time and sacrifice to bring glory to the nation on the international stage.
Furthermore, he explained that every achievement made by athletes abroad carries strong diplomatic meaning, where the raising of the Red and White flag and the playing of the national anthem symbolize the nation's honor in the eyes of the world. With objective and structured award standards established through this Presidential Regulation, synergy between the government and stakeholders is expected to be built even stronger.
Responding to the regulation, Marciano invited all KONI branches in the 38 provinces, the IKN KONI, and sports federations to use this momentum as a driver of new spirit. This aligns with President Prabowo's fourth 'Asta Cita', which prioritizes the development of human resources and national character through strengthening the national sports sector.
The Central KONI is optimistic that with a fairer and more sustainable appreciation system, the sports competition climate in Indonesia will become healthier. The support of this regulation is expected to encourage broader public participation in supporting athlete development from an early age to the professional level, in order to realize the 'Indonesia Emas' (Golden Indonesia) target on the global stage.
