Entering its 12th year of operation, the National Health Insurance (JKN) Program is increasingly establishing its position as the backbone of the social protection system in Indonesia. By the end of 2025, BPJS Kesehatan recorded an impressive achievement with the number of participants reaching 282.7 million people, or approximately 98.62 percent of the national population.
President Director of BPJS Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito, during an annual public presentation in Jakarta, emphasized that the figure is not just a statistic. Health service utilization reaching 1.9 million visits per day serves as concrete proof of high public trust in accessibility and service quality, which continues to be digitally transformed through the Mobile JKN application and PANDAWA channels.
Behind these massive operations, financial sustainability remains a top priority. The Health Social Security Fund (DJS Kesehatan) successfully recorded net assets of IDR 30.04 trillion, with investment yields reaching IDR 3.94 trillion. This financial stability is supported by a commitment to transparent governance, as evidenced by receiving an Unmodified Opinion (WTM) for the 12th consecutive year.
The economic impact of this program cannot be overlooked either. A study by LPEM FEB UI shows JKN's contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached IDR 129 trillion, alongside its crucial role in protecting millions of citizens from the risk of poverty caused by unexpected medical expenses. This investment in public health is viewed as a strategic step toward creating productive human capital for the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
Despite these solid achievements, BPJS Kesehatan remains vigilant regarding the trend of rising medical costs, particularly for catastrophic illnesses. In response, health promotion and preventive measures will continue to be enhanced. Cross-sectoral synergy with the government, healthcare facilities, and other stakeholders remains the main key to maintaining the spirit of mutual cooperation (gotong royong) so that JKN benefits remain sustainable for all levels of society.
