The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, specifically summoned the leadership of the Batam Free Trade Zone Authority (BP Batam) to formulate strategic steps to make Batam a driver of national economic growth. The meeting, which took place in Jakarta, reaffirmed the government's ambition to transform Batam into a maritime gateway and a competitive global investment hub.
In his directives, the President emphasized the importance of industrial downstreaming, deregulation, and logistics efficiency as the main foundations for attracting foreign investors. Infrastructure modernization, especially the planned construction of the Batam International Port, is a priority agenda to integrate industrial areas with global shipping networks and high-tech data centers.
The Head of BP Batam, Amsakar Achmad, stated that the strengthening of regulations through Government Regulation (PP) No. 25 of 2025 has provided greater legal certainty for businesses. In line with this, the Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, added that the digitization of the land management system is now being strengthened to increase transparency and facilitate services for investors wishing to invest in the region.
Regarding economic achievements, BP Batam's Deputy for Investment, Fary Djemy Francis, presented positive data showing that realized investment in the first quarter of 2026 reached IDR 17.48 trillion. This significant growth of 102.85 percent compared to the same period last year shows that Batam is increasingly attractive to investors, especially in high-value-added sectors such as electronics manufacturing and energy.
As a concrete step, President Prabowo committed to leading cross-ministerial coordination to resolve regulatory challenges and accelerate infrastructure development in Batam. This is expected to turn Batam into a 'pilot project' for efficient and transparent national investment reform, while strengthening Indonesia's global supply chain.
