The new energy vehicle (NEV) market in Indonesia is now entering a significant growth phase. This shift in trend is triggered by increasing consumer awareness of operational cost efficiency amid fuel price fluctuations that have surged by more than 32 percent in the recent period.
Today, people no longer just prioritize comfort and carrying capacity when choosing a vehicle. Energy efficiency and long-term operational cost rationality have become crucial considerations, especially for the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment, which has dominated the domestic market with a share of more than 30 percent.
Responding to these needs, PT BYD Motor Indonesia introduced the BYD M6 with Dual Mode (DM) technology. This innovation is claimed to bridge the need for family vehicle flexibility with the energy efficiency advantages offered by electrified engines.
President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, explained that DM technology adopts an EV-oriented approach that prioritizes the use of electric power. This approach aims to provide a responsive, smooth, and quiet driving sensation, while offering an economical solution for long-distance trips often taken by MPV users in Indonesia.
Since its introduction in May 2026, public interest in this technology has been high, with more than 20,000 expressions of interest recorded. The BYD M6 is currently marketed in five variants with a price range of IDR 298 million to IDR 390 million on-the-road Jakarta, making it a competitive choice for consumers seeking a balance between performance, comfort, and household budget efficiency.
