The gold jewelry transaction dispute involving Toko Mas Gunung Kawi has entered a new chapter. After previously facing negative accusations, the shop, through its defense attorney, Kurniawan, finally spoke out to deny all allegations in a complaint filed by a consumer named Neli with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Regional Police.
Beyond merely denying the allegations, Toko Mas Gunung Kawi has also taken legal action by filing a counter-report against the complainant with the Pangkalpinang City Police (Polresta) for alleged attempted extortion. The police report was filed after amicable mediation efforts hit a dead end due to compensation demands deemed irrational by the shop.
Kurniawan emphasized that his client fully supports the ongoing investigation by the Bangka Belitung (Babel) Regional Police. For him, the formal legal process is the fairest and most objective venue to prove the actual facts, while putting an end to wild speculation circulating in the public.
Regarding the allegations of gold purity discrepancies in the earrings purchased by the complainant, Kurniawan assured that all jewelry sold by Toko Mas Gunung Kawi meets official specifications. He guaranteed that every product has a production code and specific characteristics whose authenticity can be verified against the purchase receipt.
Kurniawan also clarified the matter of the Rp1 million that was previously handed over to Neli. He emphasized that the money was not an admission of guilt, but rather a personal moral initiative as defense counsel to appease the disappointed consumer, channeled through a journalist acting as a mediator.
Furthermore, Kurniawan detailed the timeline before the case escalated to the police. The shop initially intended to offer a peaceful compensation of Rp10 million, but the complainant demanded up to Rp60 million instead. Due to indications of extortion, they officially filed a police report on July 10, 2026.
To ensure the objectivity of the case, the defense attorney also urged investigators to examine the third party that had previously tested the complainant's gold purity. This is crucial for verifying the testing methods and equipment used, while the investigation at the Babel Regional Police remains ongoing.
