The warm meeting between Prananda Paloh and the Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, at the official residence recently has come under sharp scrutiny. Many observers believe the moment was not merely an ordinary dinner, but a strategic move by the NasDem Party to encourage Bobby Nasution to step up more boldly into the national political architecture.
Dr. Rahman Tahir, a political observer from Dharmawangsa University, views this meeting as an effort to redefine the role of the younger generation in politics. According to him, the collaboration between Bobby Nasution—who holds a strong executive populism base—and Prananda Paloh—as a representation of NasDem's political machine—has the potential to create an antithesis to conventional political styles, which are often considered philosophically shallow.
"This is a strong signal of a grand plan. NasDem has a solid track record of facilitating potential figures to rise to the national stage, as seen with figures like Joko Widodo and Ridwan Kamil in the past," explained Rahman Tahir.
Furthermore, Tahir argues that NasDem most likely wants to invite Bobby to consolidate his power while maintaining political relations and representation from the family of the 7th President, Joko Widodo. Although the specific agenda behind the meeting remains undisclosed, this move is predicted to be the embryo for the formation of a cross-party youth political faction projected to dominate Indonesia's political arena in the future.
