The development of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in Indonesia has shown a positive trend in recent years. However, the country's challenging geographical characteristics—ranging from urban traffic congestion to out-of-town routes with unevenly distributed charging infrastructure—pose a unique challenge for the mass adoption of pure electric vehicles.

Addressing these challenges, automotive manufacturer BYD offers an alternative solution through Dual Mode (DM) technology. Embodying the electric-first concept, this system prioritizes the use of an electric motor as the vehicle's primary driver. Meanwhile, the embedded conventional engine functions as a generator to supply electricity, keeping energy efficiency optimal.

This innovative technology not only offers a quiet and responsive driving experience similar to a pure electric car, but also exceptionally high fuel efficiency. Based on internal testing over 150 kilometers, fuel consumption is claimed to reach 65 kilometers per liter, with a very economical estimated operating cost of around IDR 300 per kilometer.

The presence of this advanced hybrid technology is expected to bridge the electrification transition period in the country. Amid fluctuating fossil fuel prices, BYD's DM technology serves as a realistic option that offers high flexibility without complete reliance on the availability of charging stations in remote areas.
