The Indonesian government is prioritizing early prevention strategies for stroke through the Free Health Check (CKG) program. This step is taken as a crucial effort to suppress the JKN financing burden, which continues to soar, surpassing IDR 5 trillion annually.
National data shows that stroke is the leading cause of death in the country, with an estimated 337,000 deaths per year. Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, emphasized that the prevalence of hypertension reaching 20 percent and diabetes above 10 percent are the main risk factors that must be controlled before developing into stroke.
To achieve the target coverage of 280 million people over the next five years, the government has adopted the 80-80-80 approach. This strategy focuses on identifying residents, providing appropriate treatment, and ongoing assistance until the patient's health condition is under control.
In addition to prevention at the upstream level, the government is also accelerating the distribution of medical facilities across 514 regencies/cities. The addition of advanced medical equipment such as CT scans, cath labs, and craniotomy training for general surgeons in the regions is a major focus so that stroke treatment is no longer concentrated in major cities.
Synergy in the medical field is also strengthened through the holding of ICONNS 2026. President Director of the National Brain Center Hospital, dr. Adin Mulkasana, emphasized that uniform clinical standardization is a vital key to reducing mortality and the risk of permanent disability due to stroke throughout Indonesia.
