The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has officially issued a new regulation to respond to the trend of surging healthcare costs. This strategic step was taken to maintain the stability of the national insurance industry against the pressure of rising medical claims, which could potentially trigger premium increases for policyholders.

The provision is stipulated in OJK Regulation (POJK) Number 36 of 2025 concerning the Strengthening of the Health Insurance Ecosystem. Through this new policy, the regulator aims to create a health protection ecosystem that is more efficient, transparent, and financially sustainable.

One of the crucial points in the regulation is the mandate to establish a Medical Advisory Board and the implementation of a co-payment system. Through this cost-sharing scheme between insurance companies and policyholders, it is hoped that health risk management can be optimized.
