In an effort to raise public health awareness, the Batam City Karang Taruna (Youth Organization) collaborated with the Batam City AIDS Commission (KPA), BPJS Kesehatan, and the Adhitya Karya Berjaya Foundation to hold a health education program. The activity, which focused on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and the socialization of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program, took place at the Karang Taruna Corner in Sungai Harapan, Sekupang District, Batam City, on Sunday (2/8/2026).
The Chairman of Batam City Karang Taruna, Zul Arif, officially opened the event. In his address, he underlined the urgency of health understanding among the younger generation, particularly regarding the mitigation of HIV/AIDS transmission and the importance of active BPJS Kesehatan membership as a medical protection guarantee.
Zul Arif also invited the public to actively build mutual concern and eliminate the negative stigma against People Living with HIV (PLHIV). This step is considered crucial to ensure that all levels of society, without exception, get access to equal and humane health services.
The educational session on HIV/AIDS management and prevention was delivered by the representative of Batam City KPA, Pieter P. Pureklolong. He presented comprehensive material ranging from how the virus is transmitted, the importance of regular early detection, to an appeal to stop all forms of social discrimination against survivors.
Meanwhile, Miranda, representing BPJS Kesehatan, gave a presentation on the rights and obligations of JKN participants. This socialization aims to educate residents on tiered healthcare procedures and the importance of maintaining an active membership status for continuous medical service assurance.
