One step forward is shown by RSU Bunda Jakarta, which is now optimizing the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgery system. This technology is specifically designed to help the medical team perform surgical procedures with a high level of accuracy and minimize incision sizes for patients.
Despite bearing the name of a surgical robot, the Da Vinci Xi does not operate independently or make medical decisions on its own. This advanced system functions entirely as an extension of the surgeon's hands, translating every instruction and hand movement of the surgeon into highly delicate and precise mechanical actions in hard-to-reach surgical areas.
With a high level of precision, surgeons have more flexible freedom of movement, especially when dealing with organs of complex and narrow structures. For patients, this minimally invasive method offers advantages such as minimal damage to surrounding tissue, milder pain, and a relatively faster postoperative recovery period.
The implementation of this advanced technology is not new for RSU Bunda Jakarta, which has pioneered robotic surgery services since 2012. To date, the hospital has successfully performed nearly 1,000 robotic surgery procedures. Some of the complex cases successfully handled include kidney transplants, rectal tumor removals, skin-sparing mastectomies, and the removal of a 2.7-kilogram myoma.
President Commissioner of PT Bundamedik Tbk (BMHS), Dr. Ivan Rizal Sini, emphasized that the success of robotic surgery does not rely solely on the availability of equipment, but also on the competence and experience of the medical staff in handling difficult cases. BMHS also continues to expand this service outside the capital, one of which is by introducing the first robotic surgery service in West Sumatra through RSU Bunda Padang.
