A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team has successfully evacuated six Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) Makassar students who were trapped in the Mount Goa Kalibbong Alloa area, Belae Village, Minasatene District, Pangkep Regency, South Sulawesi. This emergency evacuation process took place on Monday (27/7/2026) after the victims were reported to have experienced health issues during their climb.
The six students, who were conducting their Community Service Program (KKN), were identified as Ine Agustina, Baso Rafiansyah, Riyanti Rahmania Putri, Adel Zain Filadelfia, Mutiara Kamilah, and Lulu. They were reported to have suffered severe leg cramps and extreme exhaustion after attempting to conquer the steep karst mountain terrain.
Head of Operations Section (Kasi Ops) of SAR Makassar, Andi Sultan, explained that the students were carrying out a village innovation work program focused on the development of special interest tourism. "They climbed a cliff with an extreme slope of nearly 90 degrees, 25 meters high, in the mountainous area which is about 1,200 meters above sea level," said Andi.
Based on information from a local witness, Heru Belae, the group of students began climbing on Saturday night (25/7/2026). Realizing there was an emergency situation with the climbers, Heru immediately contacted authorities to request evacuation assistance. The Makassar SAR team then collaborated with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pangkep Regency to conduct the rescue.
Given the very steep karst terrain, the rescue team had to use a rope system and special evacuation equipment to safely lower the victims. After being successfully evacuated from the cliff, the six students were immediately rushed to the Minasatene Health Center (Puskesmas) for further medical treatment.
