The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fapet UGM) is exploring a strategic collaboration with a Japanese company, Forest Holdings, regarding the implementation of a cutting-edge disinfectant technology named Oxilink. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, marked the initial step towards adopting a singlet oxygen-based biosecurity system to improve health standards in the national poultry industry.

Manager of the Corporate Strategy Division at Forest Holdings, Toshihiro Nakamura, explained that Oxilink was developed as a solution to the limitations of conventional disinfectants, which often use corrosive chemicals like chlorine. The main advantage of this technology lies in its ability to eliminate pathogenic microorganisms without harming animal health, even when applied directly while livestock are inside the barn.

Furthermore, this technology offers a solution to the issue of bacterial resistance and biofilm formation in livestock drinking water piping systems. By maintaining the cleanliness of water distribution infrastructure, Oxilink is claimed to minimize the risk of systemic disease contamination, ensuring that the water quality consumed by poultry maintains its hygiene standards.

Dean of Fapet UGM, Prof. Budi Guntoro, welcomed the potential of this innovation. He emphasized that the university is open to conducting trials in Fapet UGM's closed-house facilities. This step is expected to prove the scientific validity of Oxilink while providing added value to research and the learning process for students regarding modern livestock technology.

The synergy between Fapet UGM and Forest Holdings is expected to be a turning point in implementing more sustainable biosecurity. In addition to providing technical solutions for farmers, this collaboration underscores both parties' commitment to delivering technology that is not only economically effective, but also safe for environmental sustainability and animal welfare.
