The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Central officially launched a book titled 'Sports Intelligence' as a strategic step to transform the nation's sports development system. The launch, which took place at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK) at Surabaya State University (UNESA) on Tuesday (7/7/2026), marks a new era where athletic performance no longer relies solely on physical abilities, but on the integration of data and technology.
General Chair of Central KONI, Marciano Norman, emphasized that modern sports have evolved into a competitive arena highly dependent on data intelligence. According to him, the concept, which has been designed since 2019, aims to create a strategic analysis center capable of synergizing sports science with cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence and big data utilization, to support more accurate decision-making.
This book is a collaborative work by experts, namely Eman Sungkowo, Syarif Hidayat, Jerry Indrawan, and Irandito Abdul Hakim Malik. Comprehensively, the literature reviews how sports intelligence can map opponents' strengths, recognize one's own weaknesses, and formulate more effective coaching strategies for both athletes and coaching staff.
In an effort to strengthen implementation on the ground, Central KONI also signed a memorandum of understanding with UNESA. This synergy focuses on developing a research-based sports ecosystem involving collaboration between the government, sports governing bodies, and universities to ensure the sustainability of nationally integrated training.
The event concluded with the reading of the Indonesian Sports Intelligence Declaration as a joint commitment by stakeholders to advance national sports achievement. This initiative is expected to become a strong foundation for Indonesia to enhance athlete competitiveness in various international events through a more scientific and measurable approach.
