The Vice Regent of East Kotawaringin (Kotim), Irawati, provided strategic guidance to students regarding the utilization of technology in the digital era. Opening the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for the 2026/2027 academic year at SMP Negeri 1 Sampit on Monday (7/13/2026), she emphasized the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet as tools to support the learning process and develop student innovation.
In her address, Irawati reminded students that mastering technology must be accompanied by ethics and responsibility. She specifically asked students to be wiser when surfing the internet, to avoid spreading hoaxes, and to stay away from cyberbullying, which can harm themselves and others.
"Be a digital generation that is not only technically smart, but also polite and ethical. Utilize the sophistication of technology to create works that make us proud and benefit others," Irawati emphasized in front of the new students.
Highlighting the important role of supervision from their immediate environment, Irawati invited educators and parents to strengthen collaboration in guiding children. According to her, access to gadgets is unavoidable, so close monitoring of screen time and the content accessed by children is the main key to shaping the character of the younger generation.
She hopes that this early stage of junior high school education will serve as momentum for students to build high learning enthusiasm. By respecting teachers, obeying school rules, and having the courage to dream big, Irawati is optimistic that students from Kotim can make a real contribution as a superior generation in welcoming Golden Indonesia 2045.
