Indonesian badminton fans will soon be treated to a nostalgic match bringing together domestic and international badminton legends. Titled Shuttle Open 2026, this exhibition event, a collaboration between MAKUKU and AceKid Indonesia supported by myBCA, is scheduled to take place at the GBK Basket Hall, Senayan, Jakarta, on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports (Wamenpora), Taufik Hidayat, expressed his appreciation and full support for this sports initiative. Taufik considers the event to be not just entertainment, but a form of appreciation for the dedication of former athletes who once brought honor to Indonesia on the international stage. He hopes this event will motivate the younger generation to achieve similar success.
A lineup of big names who have made history in badminton is confirmed to take part, including Ricky Soebagdja, Candra Wijaya, Hendra Setiawan, Liliyana Natsir, and Tontowi Ahmad. Equally exciting, Chinese living legend Lin Dan is scheduled to attend as a special guest to add to the excitement of the friendly match.
Vice President of MAKUKU Global & AceKid Indonesia, Patrick Owen, revealed that Shuttle Open 2026 carries a mission to show that the essence of an athlete's struggle does not stop when they retire. According to him, this legacy of achievement must live on to inspire the wider community, especially in supporting the optimal growth and development of Indonesian children.
Former men's doubles gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Ricky Soebagdja, added that this event is a rare momentum for fans to enjoy badminton in a warm family atmosphere. In addition to the action on the court, the event also includes a social mission in the form of a charity auction of the badminton legends' personal belongings. All funds raised from the auction will be channeled directly to support national athletes who need financial assistance.
For members of the public who want to witness this historic moment live, the organizers are providing tickets in four alternative categories. Entrance tickets are offered at IDR 500,000 for Gold A and Gold B categories, and IDR 350,000 for Silver A and Silver B categories.
