The Central Papua Province has officially launched a long-term strategic step to realize a sustainable green region through a program titled "Go Green Central Papua 2045". As a concrete effort, the Papua Green Technology Foundation has established a strategic partnership with the Forest Seedlings Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the East Java Provincial Forestry Service to ensure the supply of quality tree seedlings.
The ambitious target of planting 30 million trees over the next two decades will begin by making Paniai Regency the primary pilot region. The success of this first phase will later serve as a blueprint for expanding the program to seven other regencies, namely Nabire, Dogiyai, Deiyai, Mimika, Intan Jaya, Puncak, and Puncak Jaya.
The Chairman of the Papua Green Technology Foundation, Otopianus P. Tebai, emphasized that the choice of the partner from East Java was based on their proven track record in producing certified high-quality seedlings. This collaboration is not limited only to seedling procurement, but also includes technical consultations regarding the suitability of plant species to local agroclimatic conditions, with the Pinus merkusii tree being one of the development priorities.
Echoing this sentiment, the Head of the Forest Seedlings Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the East Java Provincial Forestry Service, Didik Triswantara, stated his institution's full commitment to providing technical assistance from upstream to downstream. This collaboration is viewed as a vital cross-regional contribution to support Indonesia's national target of FOLU Net Sink 2030 and accelerate the achievement of Net Zero Emission (NZE).
In addition to the ecological aspects, this initiative is also expected to have a positive impact on human resource development at the local level through knowledge transfer in independent and professional nursery management.
