Volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, has once again shown an increasing trend. Based on observations by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) on Tuesday (7/7/2026) during the period from 12:00 to 18:00 WIB, the volcano was observed emitting a column of thick black smoke.
Official reports state that the height of the smoke column emerging from the crater varied between 10 to 200 meters above the peak. In addition to the black color, crater activity also released white and gray smoke material with fluctuating intensity, ranging from thin to thick. Despite the increased activity, the status of Mount Anak Krakatau remains set at Level III (Alert).
In addition to visual observations, seismograph instruments also recorded a number of quite intensive seismic activities. Nine gust earthquakes, one hybrid earthquake, and 12 harmonic tremor earthquakes were recorded. Furthermore, continuous tremor activity (microtremor) is still being recorded with a dominant amplitude of 1 millimeter.
Responding to these conditions, the PVMBG issued a strict warning to the public, fishermen, and tourists. All parties are strictly prohibited from conducting any activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the active crater area to avoid unwanted risks due to potential eruptions or the ejection of volcanic material.
