The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that Mount Semeru, located on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies, East Java, continues to show a significant level of volcanic activity. Based on the latest evaluation, the highest mountain on the island of Java remains at Level III or Alert status.
Monitoring results show that volcanic activity in Semeru's crater is still dominated by a series of surface processes. The release of volcanic smoke has been consistently observed from the observation post in Ranupani Village, Senduro District. This condition demands high preparedness from local residents and relevant parties around the mountain slopes.
Relevant authorities have issued a strict warning for all members of the public not to conduct any activities within the designated red zone or disaster-prone area. In addition to the threat of pyroclastic flows, residents are asked to remain vigilant regarding potential lava flows and cold lahar floods, especially during extreme weather conditions or heavy rainfall over the peak and slopes of the mountain.
The public is advised to always follow official instructions from PVMBG and the local government to minimize the risks of eruption impacts.
