The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) confirmed that Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait on the border of South Lampung and Banten, currently remains at Level III or Alert status. This step was taken in response to the ongoing fluctuating volcanic activity at the volcano.
According to a report by an officer at the Mount Anak Krakatau Observation Post, Deny Mardiono, visual activity from the active crater continues to be observed. During the observation period on Wednesday (8/7/2026) afternoon, white smoke of medium to thick intensity was observed rising between 10 and 100 meters above the crater peak.
In addition to visual activity, seismograph instruments also recorded continuous tremor or microtremor activity. These vibrations indicate the movement of magma or fluids deep within the volcanic body. The tremor earthquake amplitude was recorded in the range of 1 to 15 millimeters, with vibrations dominating at 5 millimeters.
Although volcanic activity is still ongoing, meteorological conditions around the 157-meter-high volcano above sea level were reported to be clear to cloudy, with air temperatures ranging from 27 to 31 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, waves in the surrounding waters were observed to be calm.
The Geological Agency has issued strict instructions for the public, tourists, and climbers not to approach the active crater. A exclusion zone has been established within a three-kilometer radius of the crater center to minimize the risk of eruption impacts that could occur at any time.
