Mount Semeru, located in Lumajang Regency, East Java, once again showed an increase in volcanic activity intensity on Thursday (18/06). Based on observational data from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the highest mountain on the island of Java was observed undergoing eruptions 19 times between 06:00 and 12:00 WIB.
During this series of eruptions, volcanic material in the form of ash columns was observed rising up to 1,200 meters above the peak. The dispersion of ash was clearly observed by field teams, highlighting the volcano's status, which still requires high vigilance from the local community.
As of the time of this report, relevant authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation to ensure disaster mitigation runs optimally. Residents around the slopes of Mount Semeru are urged to adhere to official recommendations from the PVMBG to ensure personal safety amidst the ongoing volcanic fluctuations.
