PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI) continues to accelerate its digital transformation steps to expand access to financial services for the wider community. In collaboration with Danantara, this state-owned bank focuses on developing the merchant and QRIS ecosystem, which has proven successful in driving cashless transaction growth while strengthening the company's low-cost funding (CASA) base.

Up to Q1 2026, the performance of BRI's digital business line showed an impressive report card. The number of merchants partnering with BRI has now surpassed 323.7 thousand, with transaction volume growing by 26.5 percent year-on-year (yoy) to reach IDR 67.9 trillion. At the same time, transaction volume using QRIS surged significantly by 76 percent yoy to IDR 30.5 trillion, with the total transaction frequency surpassing 253 billion times, up 86.7 percent yoy.

Director of Network & Retail Funding at BRI, Aquarius Rudianto, explained that the strengthening of the merchant and QRIS ecosystem is designed to create an efficient and inclusive transaction ecosystem. According to him, reliable digital services will open wider opportunities for business actors, especially the MSME sector, to scale up and expand their market reach.

Aquarius added that currently, as much as 98.9 percent of the total transactions at BRI have been shifted to electronic channels (e-channels). To maintain this momentum, BRI is implementing the BRIvolution Reignite strategy to optimize digital channels and strengthen partnerships with merchants, while continuing to educate the public regarding the security of digital transactions.

This increase in digital transactions also contributed positively to BRI's overall financial stability. In the first quarter of 2026, BRI's total assets grew by 7.2 percent yoy to IDR 2,250 trillion. In addition, Third-Party Funds (DPK) also rose by 9.4 percent yoy to IDR 1,555.1 trillion, dominated by low-cost funding (CASA) worth IDR 1,058.6 trillion, or equivalent to 68.07 percent of the total DPK.
