The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) of the Republic of Indonesia is aggressively transforming the health worker education sector to address gaps in medical availability across various healthcare facilities. This strategic step focuses on strengthening the role of regional Health Polytechnics (Poltekkes) to produce a ready-to-work workforce aligned with field requirements.
To date, as many as 2,537 Poltekkes graduates have been successfully deployed to fill medical personnel vacancies in 6,293 Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) across Indonesia. This fulfillment effort is also supported by the acceleration of scholarship programs for doctors, medical specialists, and fellowships through collaboration with LPDP, covering 1,676 beneficiaries.
The Director General of Health Workforce, drg. Arianti Anaya, MKM, emphasized that meeting health workforce needs does not stop at education, but extends to workforce distribution. A total of 10,524 doctors and 392 dentists have been placed through internship programs in hospitals and Puskesmas. Additionally, 500 medical specialists are now serving in various regional public hospitals (RSUD) to strengthen specialist services in local regions.
In the digital realm, the Ministry of Health launched the 'Plataran Sehat' platform, inaugurated by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin. This platform is designed as an integrated learning ecosystem for medical staff, civil servants (ASN), and non-civil servant health workers to independently enhance their competencies through online and offline methods.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health has begun expanding global career access for Indonesian medical personnel. Through strategic partnerships with Germany and Japan, the government is integrating foreign language curricula into international nursing degree programs. This step aims to equip Indonesian health personnel with global competency standards and prepare them to compete in international markets, as demonstrated by the placement of hundreds of nurses in Japan, the Netherlands, and Saudi Arabia.
As a gesture of appreciation for the dedication of key players in the health education sector, the Ministry of Health also presented awards to several health figures during the 'Health Human Resources Transformation Townhall' under the theme Innovation with Health HR. These awards spanned various categories, ranging from high-performing Poltekkes institutions to faculty innovations in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.
