Volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait is reportedly beginning to show a downward trend following the latest eruption on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Nevertheless, relevant authorities are still maintaining the active volcano's status at Level III (Alert).
The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banten Province, Lutfi Mujahidin, revealed that a number of monitoring parameters have begun to show a declining graph. He hopes this condition can continue to consistently improve so that the disaster status of Mount Anak Krakatau can be lowered to Level II (Caution).
Based on a report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) for the observation period on Thursday (16/7/2026) from 06:00 to 12:00 WIB, the weather around the mountain area was observed to be clear and cloudy. Visually, gray-white smoke of medium to thick intensity was observed billowing from the main crater, rising 20 to 50 meters above the crater peak.
In terms of seismic activity, the observation post recorded two hybrid or multi-phase earthquakes with amplitudes ranging from 17.4 to 18 mm and durations of 6 to 11 seconds. In addition, continuous tremor activity was also recorded with a dominant amplitude of 5 mm.
Referring to the Alert status that remains in effect, officials strongly urge local residents, tourists, fishermen, and climbers not to conduct any activities within a safe radius of 3 kilometers from the active crater, in anticipation of potential eruption hazards that could occur at any time.
