The volcanic activity of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait is reported to have increased significantly throughout the period from June to July 2026. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) noted that this active volcano has erupted 19 times, prompting relevant authorities to maintain its status at Level III or Alert.
Based on visual observations via monitoring cameras (CCTV) on Monday (13/7) afternoon, the observation post continues to record emissions and seismic fluctuations from the volcano's body. Although the intensity is dynamic, the potential threat of follow-up eruptions remains high, so intensive 24-hour monitoring continues.
In connection with this status upgrade, PVMBG has issued a strict recommendation for the public, fishermen, and tourists to stay away from the active crater area. The current safe radius is set at a minimum of five kilometers from the crater to avoid the threat of incandescent materials and toxic gases.
