The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) confirmed that Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait bordering South Lampung and Banten, currently maintains its Level III or Alert status. This step was taken following monitoring of volcanic activity, which shows continuous visual and seismic fluctuations.
Anak Krakatau Volcano Observation Post officer, Deny Mardiono, explained that based on recent observation data, the volcano's crater is actively emitting white smoke with moderate to thick intensity. The height of the smoke column was recorded in the range of 10 to 100 meters above the crater peak, indicating pressure from within the body of the mountain.
From the seismic side, monitoring instruments recorded continuous tremor or microtremor with amplitudes between 1 and 15 millimeters. This phenomenon is a strong indicator of magma or fluid movement below the surface of the crater. Although weather conditions around the location are observed to be clear with relatively calm sea currents, the potential danger from this volcanic activity cannot be ignored.
As a form of risk mitigation, the authorities have issued a strict warning for the public, tourists, and climbers not to engage in any activity within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater. The Geological Agency urges all parties to continue monitoring the development of the situation and comply with the ban for collective safety from unexpected potential eruptions.
