Volcanic activity at Mount Semeru, located on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies, East Java, has shown a significant increase over the last five days. According to the latest data, the highest mountain on the island of Java spewed a column of volcanic ash again on Monday (13/7/2026) morning at around 07:26 WIB, reaching a height of 800 meters above the peak.
The observed ash column was reported to be thick, dominated by white to gray colors, spewing from the active crater to an altitude of 4,476 meters above sea level. This phenomenon is a continuation of a series of eruptions recorded repeatedly since July 9, 2026, with varying intensities of activity.
Relevant authorities have strongly urged the public to increase vigilance and comply with the exclusion zone. Residents are prohibited from carrying out any activities in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, within an 8-kilometer radius of the eruption center. This warning aims to minimize the risk of threats from pyroclastic flows, lava flows, and cold lahar flows along the river channels originating from the mountain.
The public is asked not to be provoked by unverified information and to continue monitoring the latest developments through official disaster agency channels or authorities. The volcanological authorities continue to monitor closely to ensure appropriate anticipatory measures are taken to maintain the safety of residents in the areas around the mountain slopes.
