The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported an increase in the intensity of volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait. Based on monitoring data, a total of 18 eruptions have been recorded since July 2, 2026, with the latest eruption detected by seismic instruments on Saturday night at 23:34 WIB.
An officer at the Anak Krakatau Volcano Observation Post, Rio Bonik Situmorang, stated that seismic fluctuations continue to occur dynamically. Although the level of volcanic activity has been relatively high in recent days, the geological authorities decided to maintain the volcano's status at Level III or "Siaga" (Alert).
As a precautionary measure, the expert team from PVMBG continues to carry out intensive monitoring 24 hours a day. Data collected from various monitoring equipment in the field serves as a crucial reference in determining mitigation steps and updating safety recommendations for the surrounding community.
To date, the exclusion zone remains in effect within a three-kilometer radius of the active crater. This policy applies to the general public, tourists, and fishermen operating in the waters of the Sunda Strait. The public is urged to remain calm, always follow instructions from official authorities, and ignore unverified information regarding the condition of the volcano.
