The death of an internship doctor, Dr. Siti Zahra Maghfira, has drawn serious attention from parliament. Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Netty Prasetiyani Aher, expressed her deep condolences while emphasizing that this heartbreaking event must serve as an important momentum to evaluate and strengthen the protection system for healthcare workers in Indonesia.
Responding to various developing issues, Netty urged the public not to speculate wildly about the cause of the deceased's death. She requested all parties to respect the ongoing investigation process by law enforcement officials to uncover the clear facts.
The legislator emphasized that protection for the forefront of health services should not be limited to mere workplace safety formalities. According to her, the state is obligated to guarantee a healthy working environment, a humanistic guidance system, decent welfare, and real support for the physical and mental health of medical personnel.
Commission IX of the DPR RI, Netty continued, had previously urged the Ministry of Health to implement concrete steps for the protection of healthcare workers. One crucial point pushed is the provision of mental health counseling programs, especially for doctors and nurses serving in high-pressure work units.
Closing her statement, Netty invited all stakeholders—ranging from health service institutions, educational institutions, to professional organizations—to jointly build a safe and mutually respectful work ecosystem. A conducive working environment is believed to be directly proportional to the improvement of health service quality for the wider community.
