The Velodrome Athletics Stadium, Rawamangun, East Jakarta, witnessed the enthusiasm of participants in the 2026 Children with Special Needs (ABK) Fun Athletics Championship on Saturday (4/7). A total of 18 schools, including special schools (SLB), inclusive schools, and disability communities from various regions, were present to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship.
Director of London School Beyond Academy (LSBA), Dr. Chrisdina Wempi, M.Si., as co-organizer of the event, emphasized that this initiative aims to expand participation spaces for people with disabilities. She believes that active involvement in sports can be an effective instrument for honing skills, building character, and enhancing social interaction abilities for the participants.
Furthermore, Chrisdina explained that this collaboration represents a strategic step toward creating an inclusive educational ecosystem in Indonesia. Through a supportive competitive atmosphere, it is hoped that Children with Special Needs can grow to become more confident, independent individuals with the courage to explore their potential across various sectors of life.
The organizers are committed to ensuring that this event is not merely a competition, but a stepping stone for young athletes to participate in higher-level competitions in the future. It is hoped that the success of this event will encourage the involvement of other parties to jointly strengthen a friendly, inclusive, and sustainable sports culture for all persons with disabilities in the country.
