Semarang State University (Unnes) continues to strengthen its commitment to producing globally-minded graduates. A total of 45 students from the Faculty of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering study program, have officially departed for Malaysia to participate in an international collaborative research program with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA).
The program focuses on the exploration of future technologies, particularly in the renewable energy sector and the development of natural fiber composites. The Vice Dean for Business, Research, and Collaboration of the Faculty of Engineering at Unnes, Rusiyanto, stated that this collaboration is a strategic step to deepen students' understanding of green technology while expanding academic networks at the international level.
During their research in Malaysia, students will gain full access to UMPSA's modern laboratory facilities. They are encouraged to conduct in-depth case studies on the utilization of natural fibers as a more environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic materials, as well as innovation in the utilization of clean energy.
Furthermore, this initiative is designed to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main focus includes improving the quality of engineering education, developing affordable energy, and implementing responsible consumption and production patterns through natural-based material innovations.
The university hopes that this program will not only serve as a knowledge transfer platform but also produce innovative and highly reputable research outputs. This experience is expected to equip students with adaptive practical competencies, preparing them to contribute to the development of the green industry and sustainable energy transition in Indonesia upon their return.
