HANOI – Global engine and powertrain manufacturer, Weichai, officially introduced five future technology pillars to support a greener transition in the commercial vehicle and heavy equipment industry. This strategic move was presented at the Shandong Heavy Industry Global Partners Conference & Green Intelligent Products Expo held at the Vietnam Exhibition Center (VEC) in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Through independent innovation and control of the value chain, Weichai offers powertrain system solutions claimed to be more efficient, low-emission, and smart. The five technology pillars featured include battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), alternative fuel internal combustion engines (ICE), and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
In the electric vehicle (BEV) sector, the company has developed the integrated CT100 battery with three layers of insulation for safety and faster charging. Weichai also launched the WMS3200 drive system to reduce energy consumption in heavy trucks, as well as the WMC L/H/B series integrated controller designed to improve operational stability from buses to light trucks.
For hybrid (HEV) technology, the manufacturer integrates conventional combustion engines with electric motors through series, parallel, and series-parallel configurations. One of its flagship products, the natural gas-fueled WP3NNG, is specially designed for long-haul logistics transportation with an operational range exceeding 1,000 kilometers per trip.
Weichai is also strengthening the hydrogen ecosystem through PEMFC technology with the 49-ton WEF300 fuel cell engine for port logistics needs. Meanwhile, in the alternative fuel engine category, they introduced the WP15DI hydrogen engine with 46.8% thermal efficiency and the WP17T methanol engine to reduce the operational costs of heavy mining vehicles.
Finally, in the ADAS pillar, Weichai implements an integrated vehicle-road-cloud cloud computing-based architecture. This technology enables mining trucks to operate autonomously with high accuracy and facilitates highway driving safety features such as smart cruise control. With this roadmap, Weichai is committed to continuing collaboration with global partners to realize sustainable green manufacturing.
