Deputy Chairman of the Golkar Party, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tanjung, launched sharp criticism against the political position of the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani. In Doli's view, the stance of the daughter of the PDIP Chairperson tends to be passive and seems to 'play it safe', thereby giving rise to public perception of ambiguity regarding the direction of PDIP's political policies.
According to Doli, as the leader of the election-winning party that now positions itself outside the government, Puan should play a more responsive and communicative role. He highlighted that the intensity of political communication in the DPR is actually carried out more by the deputy speakers, while Puan, as the symbol of the institution, seems less prominent.
"To say she is inactive, she is there, but those who communicate everywhere are actually her deputies. As the symbol of the election winner, there should be a more measured role," Doli said during an exclusive interview in Jakarta, Monday (22/6/2026). He added that the House Speaker's silence could lead to dual interpretations, namely between controlled critical attitude or a stance that deliberately obscures the party's direction.
Furthermore, Doli urged PDIP to be consistent in carrying out its role as a balancing force in parliament. He assessed that PDIP's firmness is highly needed so that the public gains certainty regarding the party's position towards government programs. Doli also emphasized that there is no right momentum for PDIP to change course and join the government coalition in the middle of the current term.
Regarding the polemic of the ongoing Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program, Doli expressed his support for President Prabowo's good intentions. While acknowledging there are technical obstacles in the field, he emphasized that narratives in the name of the people should not be misused to disrupt government stability for temporary political interests that risk harming the State Budget (APBN).
