The GowesMu Surabaya cycling community successfully organized its inaugural gathering (Kopdar), blending physical activity with historical education. The event, held on Saturday (11/7/2026), carried the theme "Traces of Muhammadiyah in Surabaya," an initiative aimed at strengthening community bonds while preserving collective memory regarding the footprints of Islamic dakwah in the City of Heroes.
The group of participants began their journey exactly at 16:00 WIB from the Muhammadiyah Da'wah Center (Pusdam) of Surabaya City on Wuni Street. This location was chosen as a symbolic starting point, reflecting the current center of movement and modern propagation of the Muhammadiyah organization. The cyclists then pedaled along the route towards Langgar Gipo on Kalimas Udik Street, a cultural heritage site that holds a long history of trade and the struggle of national figures in the past.
Upon arriving at Langgar Gipo, the agenda continued with congregational Maghrib prayer and a short Islamic lecture (kultum) session before the group moved toward the Taqwa Kalimas Udik Mosque to perform the Isha prayer. The Chairman of GowesMu Surabaya, Abdillah Rosidin, emphasized that this activity was designed to create a new tradition where sports do not only focus on physical fitness, but also serve as a means of strengthening ideology and historical understanding for cadres as well as the general public.
On that occasion, Abdillah explained the community's philosophy, encapsulated in the jargon "Healthy Cycling, Strong Brotherhood, Solid Worship" (Gowes Sehat, Ukhuwah Kuat, Ibadah Mantap). This principle serves as the foundation for members to maintain physical health as a resource for da'wah, strengthen brotherhood among citizens, and integrate cycling activities with sincere intentions of worship. Going forward, GowesMu Surabaya is committed to routinely organizing similar events to bring to life an inclusive and educational propagation of Muhammadiyah for the wider community.
