The search for MDR (30), a resident of Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, who had been reported missing since mid-July, ended in tragedy. The victim was found dead at the bottom of a 12-meter-deep ravine in the Gunung Kendil area, Penanjan Hamlet, Paciran Village.
The discovery of the victim's body began with the suspicion of a local resident who was gathering grass. The witness claimed to have smelled a strong, pungent odor coming from the direction of the ravine for two consecutive days. This information was then reported to the victim's family and forwarded to the Paciran Sector Police for follow-up search operations.
Responding to the report, a joint team consisting of police personnel, volunteers, and local residents immediately conducted a search around the location on Thursday morning. The search efforts bore fruit when officers found MDR's stiff body at the bottom of the steep ravine.
The evacuation process of the victim's body was quite dramatic due to the steep terrain of Gunung Kendil. Officers had to be extra careful when lifting the body from a depth of over ten meters using safety equipment, assisted by local residents working together.
After being successfully evacuated from the bottom of the ravine, MDR's body was immediately rushed to the Paciran Community Health Center (Puskesmas) for an external post-mortem examination. The medical examination results showed no signs of physical violence or abuse on the victim's body. The victim's death is strongly suspected to be the result of a fatal accident, falling into the ravine.
The police appreciated the alertness of the resident who reported the anomaly at the scene, allowing the victim to be found quickly. The authorities also urged the public to always remain vigilant and cautious when conducting activities around hilly areas or extreme routes to avoid similar incidents in the future.
