The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) is currently intensifying the adoption of bioreactor technology capable of processing crude palm oil (CPO) into B100 biodiesel. This step was initiated following the 17th National Farmers and Fishermen Week held in June 2026, as a concrete effort to expand the scope of renewable energy development into the upstream sector.
While the government has successfully implemented the national B50 standard, the presence of this bioreactor technology is expected to increase the capacity for independent biofuel production by farmers and fishermen. The innovation, showcased through the Plantation Downstream Warehouse, is designed to maximize the potential of domestic plantation commodities into fuels of higher economic value.
The Head of the Agricultural Engineering and Modernization Agency (BRMP), Fadjry Djufry, emphasized that this development is part of the national energy transition strategy relying on domestic resources. By optimizing CPO into 100 percent biodiesel, Indonesia is expected to significantly reduce its dependence on imported fuel.
Furthermore, Fadjry emphasized that modernization in the agricultural sector is no longer limited to the aspect of productivity alone. Transformation through downstreaming technology is seen as a crucial instrument in strengthening both food and energy independence, addressing increasingly dynamic global economic challenges for plantation stakeholders in the country.
