Following the phenomenal success of the Dilan franchise, writer Pidi Baiq returns to bring his latest work to the big screen through a film adaptation titled Dan Bandung. This latest cinematic project, in collaboration with veteran director Rudi Soedjarwo, promises a fresher and more realistic perspective on a romantic love story for today's younger generation.
Different from the Dilan character formula, which is synonymous with the highly confident teenage boy style of the 90s, Dan Bandung highlights the dynamics of the relationship between two young people, Basil and Elma, who face the clash of social status differences and family backgrounds. The conflict presented is rooted in real social reality, where their romance must grow amidst various life pressures and limitations.
The character of Basil is entrusted to young actor Samo Rafael, while Shanna Shannon was selected to play the character of Elma. The choice of new faces as the main leads is expected to give an original impression without the shadow of characters from other popular movies. Apart from the two, the film is also supported by a cross-generational cast of actors such as Keisya Levronka, Donny Damara, Arswendy Bening Swara, and Nugie.
Not just serving as a setting, the 'Flower City' of Bandung is once again explored in depth to strengthen the emotional atmosphere of the film. Pidi Baiq expressed his optimism about this adaptation after witnessing Rudi Soedjarwo's directorial vision during the filming process. The movie Dan Bandung is scheduled to greet local cinema lovers in theaters nationwide starting August 20, 2026.
