The Financial Services Authority (OJK) highlighted the urgency of strengthening governance, risk management, and accountability alongside the increasingly massive adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the national financial services sector. While offering operational efficiency, this cutting-edge technology is deemed to bring new challenges in the form of potential misuse and vulnerability to cyberattacks.
Chairperson of the Audit Board and Member of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Sophia Wattimena, revealed that based on a survey of governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) practitioners, cyber threats and AI misuse now occupy the top position on the list of concerns for industry players. In addition to these two aspects, market players are also monitoring other risks such as regulatory dynamics, geopolitical uncertainty, and the impact of climate change.
"The results of this survey confirm that cyber risk and AI governance have become the primary concerns for the sustainability of the financial industry," Sophia said during her opening remarks at the RGS Summit 2026 in Jakarta, Tuesday (14/7/2026).
Sophia added that these findings align with global trends, where organizations worldwide also place cybersecurity and ethical AI use as top risk mitigation priorities. OJK encourages industry players to continuously improve competence and defense systems to maintain stability and public trust amidst rapid digital transformation.
