The Sidoarjo Regency Government is committed to accelerating the quality improvement of educational infrastructure in remote areas. This was emphasized when the Vice Regent of Sidoarjo, Hj. Mimik Idayana, personally inspected the physical condition of SD Negeri Kupang 3 and SD Negeri Kupang 4 in Jabon Subdistrict on Monday (20/7/2026). This rehabilitation step was taken to ensure the educational rights of children in coastal areas are met safely.
During the inspection, the condition of SDN Kupang 3, which has about 70 students, was found to be quite concerning, with leaking roofs, cracked walls, and holes in classroom partitions. Vice Regent Mimik stressed that the damage must be addressed thoroughly through careful planning to ensure the teaching and learning process becomes conducive again.
Meanwhile, SDN Kupang 4, which was established in 1987, now has only 12 students left. Despite the minimal number of students, the local government ensures there is no discrimination in fulfilling the right to a proper education. The renovation plan for this school will focus on four classrooms using special corrosion-resistant materials to cope with the high salt content in the coastal environment.
In addition to building renovations, the Sidoarjo Regency Government is preparing to expand the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program to target students in the Kupang area, Jabon. The distribution of this program was previously constrained by the distance from the nutrition service kitchen, which is quite far, and the unfinished construction of supporting infrastructure.
Acting Head of the Sidoarjo Regency Education and Culture Office, Netty Lastiningsih, stated that her office would immediately conduct a technical study to ensure the rehabilitated building structure is more durable and functional according to environmental conditions. In addition, the disbursement of Phase I and II Education Assistance Allowances is targeted to be fully realized this year for eligible students.
Legislative support also came from the Chairman of Commission D of the Sidoarjo Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Dhamroni Chludori, who urged the provision of additional incentives and transportation allowances for teachers in remote areas in the 2027 Regional Budget (APBD). This step is considered crucial to appreciate the dedication of teachers, in addition to the importance of improving road access to schools in the coastal area.
