The Sorong City Government has officially released the results of an investigative audit regarding the medical care provided to the late child patient, Ananda ZA, at Maleo Hospital. Based on the findings of an independent team, the local government has taken firm action by imposing an administrative sanction in the form of a two-week temporary freeze on new patient admissions at the hospital.
This statement was delivered directly by the Head of the Sorong City Health Office, Jemima Elisabeth Lobat, S.K.M., M.A.P., accompanied by the Investigative Audit Team during a press conference in the Anggrek Meeting Room at the Sorong Mayor's Office on Tuesday (7/21/2026). During the forum, the Sorong City Government also expressed their deepest condolences to the deceased's family over the incident.
The audit process, which took place from July 15 to 18, 2026, included reviewing medical records, confirming documentation, conducting in-depth interviews, and observing clinical governance. The investigation revealed several critical aspects requiring improvement at Maleo Hospital, such as weak communication among healthcare workers, compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), medical documentation, as well as referral mechanisms and service supervision.
The implementation of the temporary suspension of new patients now awaits the issuance of an official letter from the Mayor of Sorong. Nevertheless, the health office ensured that patients currently undergoing treatment at Maleo Hospital will continue to receive medical care as usual. This two-week period is designed as an intensive guidance phase to strengthen the application of hospital service standards.
As a follow-up step, the management of Maleo Hospital is required to immediately draft a comprehensive corrective action plan, which will be closely monitored through periodic supervision and evaluation by the Health Office. The Sorong City Government emphasized that this investigative audit focuses on systemic improvements to public healthcare services rather than assigning blame, while urging the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading speculative rumors.
