The alleged embezzlement case of fuel (BBM) worth Rp20.5 billion involving PT Petrotrans Utama and PT Dharma Putra Karsa has now entered a crucial phase. After pursuing a legal battle for more than a decade, the Director of PT Petrotrans Utama, Jumiati Marthen, is awaiting the verdict of the panel of judges at the Balikpapan District Court, scheduled for next week.
Jumiati expressed her high hopes that the panel of judges, chaired by Indah Novi Susanti, would rule on this case objectively. For her, the upcoming verdict is not merely the resolution of a criminal dispute, but proof that the law can stand tall and protect citizens who take official channels to seek justice.
In her statement, Jumiati also highlighted the sense of injustice she felt during the trial process, particularly regarding the status of the defendant, Handy Aliansyah, who was only placed under city arrest. She questioned this detention policy and emphasized that she does not expect special treatment, but rather equal law enforcement for all citizens regardless of their background.
This dispute stemmed from a cooperation in supplying diesel fuel (solar) since 2010, which eventually led to invoice payment issues. Although they had previously pursued civil channels, the case was ultimately processed criminally after indications of embezzlement were found. Public Prosecutor (JPU) Eka Rahayu has demanded a four-year prison sentence for the defendant.
On the other hand, the defense maintains that the case falls under a civil dispute, and they have requested the panel of judges to acquit the defendant of all charges. Now, the public awaits the judges' decisiveness in dissecting the trial facts to determine whether the actions constitute a criminal offense or a purely business contract matter.
