The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, officially announced a strategic cooperation commitment with India in the field of education. This step is marked by plans to establish prestigious higher education institutions from India, namely the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), as well as the potential development of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country.
The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (7/7). In a joint press statement, President Prabowo emphasized that this initiative represents a concrete effort by both countries to foster deeper ties in research, technology, and cultural exchange in the future.
In addition to building campus infrastructure, the Indonesian government also plans to facilitate an increased quota for Indonesian students studying in India. This step is considered crucial given that both nations are undergoing a demographic bonus phase, which demands the acceleration of human resource quality in technology, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure sectors.
In response, Prime Minister Modi stated that the presence of IIMs and IITs in Indonesia will be a historic milestone for capacity building among the young generation in the Asian region. Apart from education, both leaders also agreed to explore cooperation in the aerospace sector and high-tech capacity building as part of a long-term strategic partnership.
