The Buleleng Regency Health Agency (Dinkes) has expressed its full commitment to supporting the expansion of the national Human Papillomavirus (HPV) immunization program for boys. This step was realized through the active participation of the Buleleng delegation in a series of strategic educational sessions held in Denpasar on July 1, 2026.
The delegation, consisting of the Surveillance and Immunization (Survim) team, Health Promotion, Pharmacy, and representatives from the Seririt 1 and Sawan 1 Public Health Centers (Puskesmas), was equipped with a deep understanding of the vaccination implementation technicalities. The main focus of this program is the administration of a single dose of the HPV vaccine for 11-year-old boys or those in the 5th grade of elementary school.
The program, which will begin in the provinces of Bali, DKI Jakarta, and DI Yogyakarta, is projected to gradually cover all regions of Indonesia by 2030. Besides providing data on the vaccine's effectiveness in reducing cancer risk, the discussions also clarified that HPV vaccination does not require prior screening of sexual history, making it safe for the target group.
Facing the challenge of spreading misinformation in the community, the Buleleng Health Agency emphasized the importance of a pre-bias communication strategy or 'pre-bunking'. This effort aims to ensure that parents and the wider community receive accurate information about vaccine safety before the program is rolled out on a massive scale.
Furthermore, the Buleleng Health Agency highlighted that cross-sector synergy and local government support are key to successful implementation in the field. Additionally, the reach of services will be optimized so that school-aged children, as well as those who are out of school, can still have equal access to this health protection.
