The Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) of the East Java Regional Police has officially enhanced the features of the ILMU Semeru application. This innovative step was taken to make it easier for the public to track the location of motor vehicles lost due to theft or involved in traffic accidents.
The Traffic Director of East Java Police, Police Brigadier General Iwan Saktiadi, explained that the feature development is an integral part of the Mahameru Quick Response (MQR) system. The update allows for the integration of vehicle evidence data from all departmental police headquarters (Polres) in East Java into a single system accessible to the public via smartphones.
This system is designed to overcome administrative hurdles, where stolen vehicles are often recovered in different legal jurisdictions from where the crime occurred. With this new feature, vehicle owners no longer need to visit police stations one by one to check the status of their vehicles, as data will be updated periodically by officers.
Users can utilize the application, available on the Play Store, by entering the license plate number, frame number, or engine number of the vehicle as search identifiers. The presented data includes vehicles successfully recovered by the police as well as evidence still under investigation.
Although its scope is currently limited to the jurisdiction of East Java, the Traffic Directorate of East Java Police is committed to continuous development. Moving forward, it is hoped that the app can be integrated nationally to facilitate cross-provincial vehicle tracking for all citizens across Indonesia.
