Investigators from the Jakarta Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya) officially questioned prominent property tycoon Tan Kian as a witness in an alleged corruption and money laundering case related to coal trading. The case is believed to involve several major companies, including PT PLN, Asabri, Krakatau Steel, and PT CBS-KNI.
Police Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, emphasized that Tan Kian's involvement in the investigation remains strictly as a witness. As of now, police have not named the owner of the Dua Mutiara Group as a suspect.
The investigation stems from a series of raids conducted across 13 different locations since July 8, 2026. During a raid in the South Cipete area of South Jakarta, authorities seized cash worth IDR 67 billion in various currencies. Meanwhile, a raid at a house in Sentul, Bogor Regency, yielded a fantastic discovery of IDR 476 billion in cash and 74 kilograms of gold bars.
Currently, the investigation team is conducting an in-depth inquiry to trace the origin of the seized assets. Tracing efforts involve coordination with the National Land Agency (BPN) and verification with PT Sentul City Tbk regarding the management status of the area where the raid took place.
On the other hand, Tan Kian is widely known as a central figure in Indonesia's premium real estate industry through Century Properties Group Indonesia. The company is the developer behind various iconic projects in Jakarta, such as the Pacific Place complex, JW Marriott Jakarta, The Ritz-Carlton Mega Kuningan, and Millennium Centennial Center.
