Sidoarjo Makes History, Holds First ORADO District Sports Week in East Java Aiming for 2027 Porprov Gold

Sidoarjo Regency officially recorded a new milestone in national competitive sports by holding the District Sports Week (Porkab) of the Indonesian Domino Sports Federation (ORADO) on Saturday (5/7/2026). Sidoarjo was appointed as the first region in East Java to host a district-level event for the sport, which is now officially under the umbrella of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI).

The Chairman of the East Java ORADO Provincial Board, Mahenda Abdullah Kamil, highly appreciated the initiative of the Sidoarjo ORADO Branch Board. According to him, this step is a crucial momentum to shift the stigma of dominoes from a casual game into a promising competitive sport. Mahenda emphasized the importance of tiered development so that the technical and mental qualities of young regional athletes are further honed through competition experience.

This Porkab event was joined by the younger generation, with the majority of participants aged between 17 and 19 years old. Public enthusiasm exceeded expectations, with the number of applicants surging to 27 teams, far surpassing the committee's initial target of 16 to 18 teams. The participants were dominated by high school and college students prepared to become the region's main mainstay in the future.

The Chairman of the Sidoarjo ORADO Branch Board, Yonathan Toar Sangari, emphasized that this event is part of a sustainable development ecosystem. Through structured routine training programs, he stated their full readiness to face the 2027 East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov). Yonathan expressed strong optimism that Sidoarjo can secure three gold medals in the upcoming provincial-level competition.

This inaugural event was also attended by provincial board members and local government representatives, including Sidoarjo Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member, Muh Zakaria Dimas Pratama. With consistent development and support from various parties, Sidoarjo is now optimistic about becoming a new hub for professional and competitive domino sports in East Java.
