PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 8 Surabaya reported positive growth in the public transportation sector in the Malang region. During the period from January to June 2026, Malang Station successfully served 1,087,795 passengers. This figure consists of 536,049 departing passengers and 551,746 arriving passengers at the station.
The data shows a significant increase of 5% compared to the achievement in the same period in 2025, which recorded 1,036,739 passengers. Increased public mobility, especially during school holidays and long weekends, was the main factor driving the performance of train services in the area.
Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, explained that this spike reflects high public trust in trains as the primary mode of transportation for various needs. Ranging from business trips, education, tourism, to family visits, the public is increasingly choosing trains due to their efficiency and reliability.
In line with modernization efforts, KAI continues to improve the quality of station services. Currently, Malang Station is equipped with various cutting-edge facilities, such as Face Recognition Boarding Gate technology to speed up the travel process, comfortable waiting rooms, facilities for people with disabilities, and better integration with connecting modes of transportation.
KAI emphasized that the transformation carried out is not limited to travel operations but also targets comfort in station areas. With consistency in maintaining punctuality and digital-based innovations, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya is optimistic that this positive trend will continue until the end of the year, while remaining committed to maintaining safety and comfort aspects for all customers.
