The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) officially raised the volcanic activity status of Mount Anak Krakatau from Level II (Watch) to Level III (Alert). This decision was made following visual and instrumental monitoring results indicating a significant increase in activity and magma supply toward the crater surface.
In response to the status upgrade, the Class I Banten Port Authority and Harbormaster Office (KSOP) issued strict instructions for all ship captains, vessel owners, and shipping operators in the Sunda Strait waters. This step was taken to ensure navigation safety from potential threats of eruptions and ejected volcanic material.
Based on official directives, all vessels are required to stay clear of a five-kilometer radius from the active crater. In addition, captains are requested to continuously monitor official updates from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), as well as plan shipping routes considering the direction of volcanic ash dispersion to avoid navigation disruptions.
If hazardous conditions or activity anomalies are detected around the volcano, captains are urged to immediately take precautionary measures and report the situation to the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) or the nearest coastal radio station. The top priority at present is to ensure that every shipping operator complies with the safety protocols established by the government to minimize risks for maritime transport service users.
